Data we collect
We collect the personal information that you voluntarily give when you fill out any of the contact forms on our site. We use this information to correspond with you.
Most of the information you share via contact form gets sent to our Managing Directors via email and does not get stored on our web servers. File uploads are an exception, and do get saved to our web servers where we can securely access them.
Newsletter subscription information you provide is passed along to our email marketing platform, Constant Contact. You may opt-out of our newsletters and remove yourself from our mailing lists at any time.
If you fill out our membership form, the information you enter is sent to IARJ Co-Managing Directors and Web Editors Larbi Megari, based in Algeria and the Arabic-language specialist with IARJ, and to Elisa DiBenedetto, based in Italy, who handles other languages.
Elisa and Larbi look at the incoming information to confirm that applicants really are working journalists. They politely decline to allow others to join—as a safeguard against advertisers or activists who are not actual journalists. They correspond with new members to confirm their requested connection with the IARJ and, with the agreement of those new members, they save their information in our membership database. We never share our internal list of members with third parties. If an occasion arises when an event or a special opportunity may be relevant to journalists from a particular part of the world—we contact those journalists directly and ask if they care to be connected. Only with their permission would we make such a connection.
Forms with File Upload Options
We don’t store any personal information you provide on our web servers, with the exception of any files you may upload via one of our contact forms.
You may request to receive an exported file of what you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase this data. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
You may request to know what personal information we have about you, and we welcome such inquiries. You may also request that we delete this personal information. Journalists are especially prone to working in dangerous corners of the world. Even one of our long-time members may occasionally need to contact us and request an erasure of information—perhaps removing some public reference on our website. We are ready to work with you on these matters, should they arise.
